The Star River Podcast

The Vision

Strangers gathering to witness the Northern Lights We are more than just observers of the night sky; we are participants in it. The Star River Podcast - inspired by the name Astropotamus - is a journey along the celestial currents that connect us all. It's a space for deep listening at the intersection of the human experience and the infinite heavens, rooted in the belief that we are all travelers on that current through Space and Time. The same elements forged in the hearts of distant stars flow through our veins today.

By sharing a simple drink and a deep conversation, we explore how our physical bodies, our ancestral spirits, and the vastness of the Cosmos are inextricably intertwined. Just as water sustains the body and carves the landscape, the stars have long guided the spirit and shaped our collective history.

The Journey: From the VLA to the Gathering of Nations

This season, the Star River flows through New Mexico - a land where the stars feel close enough to touch.

  • The Science: I begin at the Very Large Array (VLA), sitting with astronomers to discuss the data and the physics of the deep sky.

  • The Spirit: From there, I travel to the final Gathering of Nations Powwow, seeking to listen to the stories and heritage of those who have looked to the stars for generations.

By bringing these two worlds together, we find a more complete picture of our place in the Universe.

Through the Microphone

Through shared drinks and intentional dialogue, I sit with storytellers, knowledge-keepers, and seekers to explore:

  • The Body: How the physical elements of the Cosmos live within us.
  • The Spirit: How our heritage and personal journeys find meaning in the night sky.
  • The Cosmos: Our place within the "River of Time and Space" that connects the ancestors to the future.

Whether we share a cup of tea, a traditional local beverage, or a simple glass of water, the drink is our foundation for grounding the conversation. By slowing down to share a cup and a conversation, we honor the ancient relationship between the people and the stars.

Through the Lens

I capture the light of the stars with my camera to remind us of the beauty we belong to.

I Want to Talk to You!

These are audio podcasts only. No video (though we may hold the conversation over an Internet video call). You can expect the conversation to be 30-40 minutes, though if everyone wants to keep talking, I will keep recording. The episodes will be edited to 20-25 minutes in length for release. No science degree, credentials, or titles required (though I will properly introduce you and give you credit where credit is due). I want to talk to everyone who feels connected to the Star River. From backyard astrophotographers to professional astronomers. From philosophers to clergy. From science fiction authors to science memoir readers.

If you would like to be a guest, please contact me or join me on my Discord server. We'll arrange a time that's convenient for everyone and settle on the specific recording technology we'll be using that works best for your needs. If we're remote, then we'll share that drink virtually. It's not about the tech, it's about the connection.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Until next time, clear skies, and I'll see you in the dark!
